The Creative Youth Initiative Against Corruption (CYIAC) have set aside July 30 of every year as “Goal 16 Day” to take action on Sustainable Development Goal 16 to kick against corruption in all its forms, including forgery, injustice and bribery.

The 2018 Goal 16 Action Day will generate public awareness and respective actions against certificate forgery, election malpractices (see and buy votes), tribalism, nepotism, unjust killings, bad leadership, diversification of developmental funds, non-accountability and transparency, undelivered mandates and abuse of offices.

The aim of the Goal 16 Day is to promote #UnitedAgainstCorruption for development, peace, democracy, and security by collaborating with government, private sectors, civil society and youth organisations to jointly tackle the crime that has resulted in poverty, massive youth unemployment , underdevelopment and low economic growth in Nigeria.

The highlight of the day include the release of CYIAC Corruption Busters (CCB) Animation Movie Series Four (4) titled ”The Day Morning Never Came” which was shown in a private screening at U.S Consulate Lagos on Tuesday, May 8 2018. The CCB 4 narrates how a little boy creatively unmask the faceless giants that looted the community treasury for so many years.

The first 3 series (”Hands on Canvass”, “Corruption, The Musical” and “Reclamation”) was launched on December 9, 2017 to mark United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day.

According to the Project Director of CYIAC, Foluke Michael , the CYIAC campaign focuses on corruption; which is the biggest impediments to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CYIAC provides youth with capabilities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peace, justice and strong institutions. This enable them to take bold steps in creating the corrupt-free future they desire through creative thinking and innovation.

She further stated that CYIAC emerged as United Nations SDG Award Winner in Innovator category at the first-ever United Nations SDG Action Awards in recognition of the most outstanding efforts to inspire action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development organized by UN SDG Action Campaign was held in Bonn, Germany in March 2018.
